Alfredo is a launcher that runs on your Mac. Nearly everything it knows about you stays there. This page says exactly what is stored, what leaves your computer, and who else is involved.
What stays on your Mac
All of the following is kept locally and is never transmitted anywhere:
- the index of file names and paths in the folders you chose;
- your clipboard history — text, images and file references;
- how often and how recently you launch each app, which is what the ranking is based on;
- your settings, including hotkeys and interface language.
Alfredo does not read the contents of your files. The index holds names and paths only. Clipboard history is stored in a database inside your user Library folder, and images are written as files next to it.
What leaves your Mac
The app makes two kinds of network request, and no others.
Checking for updates
Alfredo downloads an update feed and, when a new version exists, the release archive. These are static files hosted on GitHub. Like any web request, this reveals your IP address and the app version to the host serving them. No identifier of you or of your Mac is sent.
You can turn update checks off in Settings.
Activating a subscription
When you activate a subscription on a Mac, the app sends that random identifier along with the computer's name — the one you set in System Settings. The name exists for one purpose: so that the list of linked Macs shows something you can recognise when you decide which one to unlink. It is stored on our licence server until you unlink that Mac, and is shown to nobody but you.
Renewing a subscription
If you ever hold a paid subscription, Alfredo periodically asks our licence server whether it is still valid. That request carries a random identifier generated on first launch for your installation, and nothing else. It contains no name, no email address and no file names. If you have no subscription, this request is never made.
What the app does not do
- no analytics, telemetry or crash reporting of any kind;
- no advertising and no advertising identifiers;
- no profiling, and nothing is sold or shared with third parties;
- no account is required to use the app.
Payments
Purchases, when there is something to purchase, are handled by Paddle (Paddle.com Market Ltd), which acts as the merchant of record and as the seller of record for the transaction. Your payment details go to Paddle and never pass through us — we never see a card number. Paddle's own privacy policy governs that data: paddle.com/legal/privacy.
From a purchase we receive your email address, so we can send you a licence and reach you about it. On our server it is stored as a hash: that is enough to match a returning customer, and a leak of the database would not hand anyone a list of buyers.
This website
The site counts visits on our own server, and sets no cookies at all. A page view records the page, the country the request came from and the site you arrived from. Pressing a download button records that a download began and which of the buttons it was — that is how we know whether this page does its job.
Your IP address is not stored. To tell one visitor from two, the server keeps a hash of the address and browser, salted with a secret and with today's date: within a day it matches your own page views to each other, and tomorrow that same visitor is indistinguishable from anyone else — to us as well. Nothing is written to your device and nothing identifies you, which is why the site asks for no cookie consent.
Your language choice is kept in your browser's local storage and never sent anywhere. The site is served by Vercel and the counter runs on Cloudflare; both process standard request logs, as any host does.
Your rights
Because the app collects no personal data, there is usually nothing about you for us to export or erase. Where there is — an email address hash tied to a subscription — you can ask for it to be deleted by writing to the address below. Under the GDPR you also have the right to access, rectify, restrict and object to processing, and to complain to your data protection authority.
Changes
If this policy changes, the revision date above changes with it. Changes that affect what is collected will be mentioned in the release notes of the version that introduces them.
